About Us

This year, the Sparkles cheered at three varsity football games, several basketball games, and brought home the gold at the Mid-Winter Special Olympics at the University of Iowa in March.Currently, the Sparkles squad consists of ten girls, ages 8 to 15. While the squad has reached maximum capacity, the program accepts new participants on a revolving basis. We also anticipate that, over time, dozens of children with special needs will participate on the squad. Those served by the program include not just the Sparkles, but the Pleasant Valley Cheerleaders who work with them each week. This group of young ladies has benefitted immeasurably by working with the Sparkles. We believe that the entire Pleasant Valley school district and the entire community benefits from the inclusion of children with special needs into the high school sports programming.
